We have a wide range of clients from local residents, to large businesses. They use our venue for every type of activity from a high gloss business seminar, to a childrens party, to a wedding followed by reception followed by disco.
Customers can be friendly and informal, or stressed and demanding. Their expectations may be low or nearly impossible. The timescales may be relaxed or breakneck. Their budget may be open-ended or nailed down.
Our job is to help them to have a great time, and meet as many of their wishes as we can, as calmly and pleasantly as possible. As a church we aim to operate with an ethos that puts service in front of revenue, and being helpful ahead of just meeting the spec. We want our venue to be different from a hotel in that we build personal relationships with clients rather than just business ones.
The bookings team will have setup the event and provide a schedule or plan of the event, and the event managers job is to coordinate delivery of the plan. We have a great team of staff and technicians but the event manager has the key role of contact with the client, and coordinating with caterers, serving staff, hall decorators, and other staff working for the client. The manager has to understand and try to provide what the client wants, but also deal with the inevitable changes and problems, and make the decisions on all the variations from the plan given the space, time, staff and resources available. Its a challenging but immensely rewarding role.
The event manager rate is £9-11 depending on experience and any work after 12pm is at £15/hour. The role is best combined with one part time day per week on reception or in the office to allow time for paperwork, contact with clients, and learning the structure of the team and the event service provided by the venue. At present we can offer about 1 day per month event manager work, but this has the potential to increase to 1 per week.
